Use Case : Energy optimization with solar panels and batteries

Energy optimization with solar panels and batteries

For our business needs, we’ve been thinking about optimizing our energy consumption with solar panels and batteries.
The start of this process coincided with the receipt of our energy bill for December 2022. For the first time, it had exceeded the psychological threshold of 10K Euros…

So it was time to install solar panels on our roof and store this energy in our batteries, finally sending it back to our building in the form of three-phase, 30KW continuous current.
The special feature of the system is that this energy source is configured in parallel with the building’s power supply. If the batteries are empty, the building’s power supply will be provided by our energy supplier. If there is a power cut, the batteries will take over to continue supplying the building.

In normal operation, the batteries should provide enough power to compensate for our consumption without using the building’s power supply.
The solar system consists of 32 solar panels with a peak power of 420W, giving a theoretical peak power of 13KW. This isn’t enough to cover the building’s needs, but it does produce enough power to offset a good part of our consumption.

Three-phase production is provided by three VICTRON Multiplus 10KW configured for three-phase 400V, connected directly to the building’s electrical input.

For energy storage, we use 27 PowerModules in parallel, i.e. 145KWh of storage, which covers the entire daily consumption in winter.

To ensure that the battery is 100% charged every morning, a top-up charge is programmed every night from the electrical grid. This charging is carried out at an “off-peak” rate, i.e. at around 50% less than the full rate.
Commissioned in June 2023, this system enables us to reduce our electricity bill by 60-70%. The savings achieved depend on sunshine conditions throughout the year.

New building to support PowerTech’s growth

New building to support PowerTech’s growth here

New building to support PowerTech growth
In March 2020, PowerTech has moved into a brand new building next to the Saint Cyr L’Ecole airfield, 20km far from Paris, France.

This new building, completed this year, provides the company with a workspace of nearly 800 m2 to manage its manufacturing and assembly activities, but also to house its employees in more spacious and comfortable offices.

Our new head office is located approximately 20 minutes from Paris and benefits from multiple means of access (bike track, Tramway, Train, A12 and A13 motorways).

We look forward to welcoming you soon!

This is an important milestone in the company’s growth and once again demonstrates our commitment to continuously improve our products and services to satisfy our customers and partners.

PowerTech Systems is now part of French Tech

PowerTech Systems joins French Tech community

Poissy, April 17, 2018

The French manufacturer PowerTech Systems, specialized in the design of Lithium-Ion energy storage systems, integrates the “French Tech” movement, the ecosystem of French start-ups in France and internationally.

French Tech” refers to all those who work in or for French start-ups in France or abroad. Convinced that it is necessary to encourage the emergence of successful start-ups in France to generate innovation, economic value and new jobs, the Government created this initiative in 2013.

The principle is simple: to rely on the initiatives of the French Tech members themselves, to enhance what already exists, to make the brand grow and evolve.

In turn, PowerTech Systems is committed to participating in this collective initiative. PowerTech Systems now carries high, a common standard for both French Tech members and the state that supports innovative companies.

The French Tech value is to be built collectively with all French actors (public actors, media, general public, large groups, research institutes, associations, etc…).

We are very proud to participate in this initiative, which highlights the innovation, technicality and expertise of our technicians and engineers on our territory. Joining this movement is also a way for us to highlight the quality of our scientific and technical training, as well as the enthusiasm of our employees to constantly innovate.
